For many years now the names ‘Alejandro Fernández’ and ‘Pesquera’ have formed an integral part of the history of Spanish wines due entirely to their own merits. In the mid-70s of the last century the norm in many Castilla y León regions was to uproot vines and plant the land with irrigated beetroot crops. In contrast, Alejandro continued to plant vines and introduced the espalier training system to the region. Although at the time some thought he was genuinely crazy, ten years later the new wines under Ribera, the ‘Pesquera’ wines – intense, fruity, round – began to attract attention both at home and abroad. Currently, Grupo Pesquera boasts four bodegas and has just opened a magnificent hotel in the town of Peñafiel, in the heart of Ribera del Duero. As Alejandro says: "I've always wanted my wines to be affordable for most people. The same applies to the hotel: quality and good taste, but without fanfare, and within reach of every budget".
The Pesquera AF Hotel **** is housed in an attractive and totally renovated early 20th century industrial building, designed, in every respect, to offer visitors unlimited pleasures for the senses. The establishment boasts 36 rooms, all uniquely decorated in a sober and elegant style with a host of exclusively designed features. As well as 24 double rooms, there are also 2 suites, 5 executive rooms (decorated in black and white) and 5 inviting lofts on two floors.
As might be expected, food and wine are the hotel’s star attractions, although they are certainly not on their own. The ‘Luna Llena Restaurant’ serves up a fresh, exciting offer — albeit always with great respect for local produce and the time of year — with state-of-the-art approaches and presentations which go one step further than the region’s classic, traditional cuisine and harmonise to perfection with DO Ribera del Duero’s wines, whose most outstanding representatives can be found on the restaurant’s menu. In addition, on the most inviting nights of the year the restaurant’s delicate and select atmosphere also pours out onto the hotel’s comfortable and cosy terrace.
The industrial décor of ‘La Perla Tavern’, very much in line with the building’s original intended use helps expand the ‘gastrobar’ concept to the fullest. The menu offers a wide range of ‘signature tapas’ all created from local produce, which are accompanied by some of the finest wines in Spain. In addition, in a place devoted to conversation and rendezvous, guests can also enjoy a wide variety of cafés, served with genuine art, and delicious classic or avant-garde cocktails.
