The new president takes this new office as one of the biggest challenges of his life
The Regulatory Board of DO Jerez agreed unanimously at its Extraordinary Plenary to name Beltrán Domecq Williams as the new president of the institution. Domecq is a direct descendant of historical wine local sagas and is also recognized as one of the leading experts on the wines of Jerez.
The new president, with enthusiasm and responsibility, takes this as one of the biggest challenges of his professional life. In his opinion, “the situation that the Sherry wines are facing is not easy, but we must be optimistic”.
Beltran Domecq, 66 years old, has a comprehensive curriculum, developed both in the vineyard and the bodega, together with a strong knowledge of commercial and marketing aspects.
A professional oenologist, he began his career in Williams & Humbert, although most of it has been developed in Pedro Domecq bodega, later integrated into the Beam group. His job responsibilities have also taken him to develop technical projects in destinations as diverse as La Rioja or Tomelloso in Spain, and Mexico, California or the Philippines, abroad.
Also, in recent years he has also conducted an intense educational and training activity, conducting tastings and seminars around the world, becoming one of the most authoritative voices on Sherry.
Former president of the Winemakers Association of Andalucía, Beltran Domecq holds a number of significant international awards, such as 'Winemaker of the Year' by the IWSC (2005), the membership of the ‘Gran Orden de los Caballeros del Vino’ (London, 2008), and the title of ‘Guardian of the Royal Warrant’ of Harveys house wines for Queen Elizabeth II.
