The 5th edition of the Vinexpo Asia-Pacific biennial wine fair, held at the end of May in Hong Kong, has proved to be an important marketing resource for Spanish wines on the Asian market where wine consumption is on the increase. Around 45 Spanish businesses attended the fair, 25 under the umbrella of the official Spanish pavilion organised by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), with the collaboration of consulting firm, ‘Arum – Estrategias de Internacionalización’ and the backing of the Spanish Foreign Trade Agency Office in Hong Kong and ICEX.
As part of its additional activity schedule, the fair offered a programme of conferences and tastings, Vinexpo Academy; as a result the Spanish pavilion became the backdrop for two tasting-seminars – Spanish Red Wines: Tempranillo from Different Regions and The variety of Spanish wines –, where the wide range and diversity of Spanish wines was made patently evident. The activities, led by wine experts Jennie Mack and Corinne Mui, in English and Cantonese, respectively, generated interest from visitors from around the world.
The approximately 16,000 registered trade professionals from 24 countries who attended the fair were able to enjoy the lavish 207m² of exhibition space allocated to the Spanish pavilion. Attendance to Vinexpo Asia-Pacific has increased 25 per cent in comparison to the 2010 edition, highlighting that this biennial fair represents an ideal networking opportunity for importers, distributors, retailers, sommeliers, etc.
More than a third of the total number of visitors to the fair were wine trade professionals from Hong Kong, a figure that has increased by over 18 per cent over the figure from the previous edition; along the same lines, an increase has also been noted in the number of visitors from countries such as China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Macao, India, Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.
With an overall exhibition space of 10,500m² and 1,050 exhibitors from 28 countries, Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2012 has become one of the most important trade fairs in the sector, owing to the high professional profile of its public and its marked international flavour.
