Wine expert, Jay Miller, Robert Parker’s special envoy sent to taste Spanish wines in situ, recently visited Pamplona for the first time with the aim of leading a tasting masterclass showcasing the top wines from Navarra, according to US magazine, The Wine Advocate. The tasting, which took place in the Hotel Iruña Park in Pamplona last Monday, and boasted the participation of Spanish Master of Wine, Pancho Campo, brought together 180 individuals from the wine and hospitality sectors as well as media outlets.
During the tasting masterclass showcasing 14 wines from DO Navarra, which were all given high ratings by wine guru Robert Parker, Jay Miller highlighted the huge personality of the region’s wines, owing to what he calls the “Navarra blend”, a fusion of Iberian Peninsula and Continental European grape varieties which are grown in this northern corner of Spain. In addition, the US critic emphasised the quality of the wines and how their presence is becoming increasingly felt on the US market.
Jay Miller’s visit to DO Navarra coincides with the publication of the latest Parker list featuring Spanish wines, in which the appellation’s wines scored excellent results; having placed 40 brand names on the list with ratings of over 85 points. Jay Miller’s trip to DO Navarra includes visits to many of the region’s bodegas and will end with a two-day stay in the region’s capital for the feast of San Fermín.
