Ribera del Duero nominated by Wine Enthusiast magazine as Best Wine Region of the Year
The region competes together with the Rhône Valley (France), Prosecco (Italy), the Russian River Valley (California, US) and the Willamette Valley (Oregon, US)

DO Ribera del Duero has been nominated for the Best Wine Region of the Year award at the Wine Star Awards, organised yearly by US publication, Wine Enthusiast, which in 2010 celebrates its 11th edition. In addition, bodega Viña Sastre, endorsed by the nominated appellation, is also opting for the European Winery of the Year award.
The finalists belonging to the different categories are chosen by the magazine’s editors based on “their contribution to the wine industry”. The winners will be announced in the December issue and receive their awards on 24th January 2011 during a gala dinner held in New York’s Public Library.
Ribera del Duero was nominated together with the regions of the Rhône Valley (France), Prosecco (Italy), the Russian River Valley (California, US), and the Willamette Valley (Oregon, US). In parallel, Viña Sastre is the only Spanish bodega nominated in the category for the European Winery of the Year award, together with the French wineries, Gérard Bertrand and Louis Latour, the Italian winery, Mastroberardino, and the Portuguese winery, Sogrape.
Wine Enthusiast, a leading US wine magazine, has been organising the Wine Star Awards since 1999, bestowing awards on eleven representatives from the wine industry: individuals, organisations, businesses and institutions, whose work has been particularly outstanding in quality and international scope. The categories are: Person of the Year, American Winery of the Year, Winemaker of the Year, European Winery of the Year, Wine Region of the Year, New World Winery of the Year, Distiller of the Year, Importer of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Innovator of the Year, and Restaurateur of the Year.
