D.O. Condado de Huelva

Condado de Huelva is an old but little known DO in south-western Andalucia, close to the border with Portugal. It used to supply Jerez with wines to add to its Solera systems, but it is now entirely independent, making traditional and modern light fruity wine styles .

Separately, Condado also makes and seasons Sherry barrels for the Scotch malt whisky industry. They are made from Cantabrian or Asturian oak and are seasoned for three years before they travel north for their first fill of whisky.

In the southern section of the DO lies the Coto de Doñana , a natural wetland and ornithologists' paradise now classified as a natural park.
