The improvement in the figures is mainly due to the increase in sales of bottled table wine, DO wine, cavas and sparkling wine and the aromatizados.
Spanish export decreased in volume because of the drop in sales of bulk-sale table wine (-11%), but they increased in sales of higher quality wine, with an average price increase of almost 5%, according to statistics released by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) regarding the period January-November 2005.
In all, Spain exported €1 445 million, almost 2% more than the previous period. In terms of volume, 1 325 million litres were exported, 2.7% less, but the average price went up by 1.09€. This is due to a decrease in bulk sale that made up 48% of the total volume exported, 4 per cent less compared to the same period in 2004.
The growth of export in bottled table wine and of vinos de la tierra increased in value by 9% reaching €156 million. Sales in DO wines also rose by 3% reaching €712 million. Cavas and sparkling wines increased by 7% reaching €260 million and aromatizados experienced a spectacular increase of 31%.
