Alzania “21 del 10” 2003 from Bodegas y Vinedos Alzania in Navarra was awarded Best Wine (Best in show) at the International Miami Wine Fair. It received the highest points out of the 850 high quality international wines in a category full of French, Italian, Californian and Australian participants.
The jury was made up of several journalists from well-known American gastronomy and wine magazines, sommeliers, purchasers, hoteliers and restaurateurs and other wine industry connoisseurs.
Bodegas and Vinedos, based in Los Arcos (Navarra), was founded in 1999 by its current owner, oenologist, Jose Manuel Echeverria. He has had a brilliant career making wine in the region as technical manager at wine cellars like Castillo de Monjardin, Javier Asensio and Inurrieta.
The winning wine, made from the bodega’s 10 hectares, is a result of a blend of equal amounts of garnacha and merlot, and a 12-month ageing period in new French oak barrels. It has an intense cherry colour, a very ripe black berry aroma and is very powerful, concentrated and meaty on the palate.
