“How can an everyday meal be turned into a special occasion?” This question opens an article under the title ‘Fine Wines for Everyday Dinning’ published in US magazine ‘Wine Spectator’.
The authors offer four recipes (pasta primavera, grilled yellowfin tuna stakes, roast chicken and braised short ribs) and suggest a range of wines to go with each. They are all under $20 and the list includes 10 wines from Spain.
In particular, ‘Wine Spectator’ suggests a white from Penedès (‘Chardonnay 2005’ by Bodegas Sumarroca), two wines under QDO Rioja (‘Glorioso Reserva 2001’ by Bodegas Palacio and ‘Signa Crianza 2002’ by Hacienda Marqués de la Concordia), a further two from Campo de Borja (‘Viña Borgia 2005’ and ‘Tres Picos 2004’, both by Bodegas Borsao), one under DO Vinos de Madrid (‘Merum 2005’), another from Navarra (‘Vega Sindoa 2004’ by Bodegas Nekeas), one from Toro (‘Taurus 2004’ by Viñedos de Villaester), one Jumilla (‘Taja 2004’ by Mähler-Besse) and one Castilla y León Land Wine (‘Peñascal 2004’ by Hijos de Antonio Barceló).
All these suggestions are perfect options to transform a simple menu into a special occasion at a reasonable price, according to the authors. All the wines listed score between 85 and 90 on the magazine’s rating.
