Enate, winery under Somontano Designation of Origin, was Spain’s first to awarded the UNE-EN ISO 22000:2005 seal for food safety, issued by the Spanish Standards and Certificates Agency (AENOR). The international norm is designed to ensure food security throughout the supply chain. Enate is the fifth Spanish company to be awarded the seal.
ISO 22000, adopted on 1 September 2005, is a standard developed by ISO’s food experts, together with representatives from specialised international organisations and in close cooperation with Codees Alimentarius, a body established jointly by theFAO and the WHO to develop food safety standards.
The seal certifies that the company is equipped to develop, implement, apply and improve a food safety monitoring system to ensure their products reach the consumer in full compliance with all food safety requirements. The winery published a statement declaring that, “in addition to safety assurances, certification strengthens the consumer’s trust in our product by assuring traceability throughout the entire production chain”. Companies applying for the seal must meet food safety standards that are well above the requirements of applicable law.
Enate adds this seal of quality to the two it held previously: an environmental management certificate under the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2004 standard and a quality management certificate under the UNE-EN ISO 9002:2000 standard.
