The weekend of 23rd to 24th January saw the launch of the 19th edition of the Boston Wine Expo, an event which plays host to wineries from around the world, as well as to acclaimed experts and a public with a passion for wine. The event is one of the not-to-be-missed dates for the diary which are planned throughout 2010, the length and breadth of the country.

The majority of the Spanish bodegas chose to showcase their wines via their US importers. Castilla-La Mancha and Navarra were the only two regions which had their own space, the Castilla-La Mancha bodegas grouped together under DO La Mancha, backed by the Castilla-La Mancha Foreign Trade Agency (IPEX), and those from Navarra under the sponsorship of the Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Government.

Many of the exhibitors taking part did so under the united umbrella of their country’s flag in order to join forces. Some of the most outstanding presentations, by way of encouraging day to day wine consumption and not just on special occasions, were those staged by Italy, Argentina and, naturally, the US.

Those attending the event got to taste around 1,800 wines from more than 400 domestic and international wineries. In addition, small tasters of prepared food were also on offer as were a series of seminars, the most outstanding, ‘The Wines From Castilla La Mancha’ led by Charlie Arturaola.
