“Here comes Summer, with occasions aplenty to savor the increasing assortment of white Spanish varietals in the market, ranging from crispy and luscious Albariño, to miraculously textured Godello, to subtle and complex Viura. Doug Frost guides us in a fascinating journey across Spain, to pinpoint lesser known white wine varieties, which were obscure until only a few years ago, but have now joined our everyday wine lexicon. He provides us with a road map of what varieties might captivate our senses next. Pameladevi Govinda journeys to Galicia to discover all the nuances of Albariño and other varieties of the region, while Kerin Auth (who spent weeks with winemakers in the Basque Country) reports on her own little darling, Txacoli. We shared the table with Rohini Dey at Vermilion restaurant to discover magic combinations of Indian and Latin flavours in the company of Spanish wines. A long-distance affair with Rioja wines, where Tempranillo is king, culminates with Leslie Sbrocco’s visit to the region, a place that offers something amazing (from wines to food to architecture) for everyone. Wines from Spain News is a free publication published three times a year by Wines from Spain USA (Trade Commission of Spain in New York). Until last year, the magazine was published in a printed edition, but we are glad to announce we are going green in 2009 with this new, paperless, digital version of Wines from Spain News.
