The city of Valencia will host the next edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most important wine events in the world. The announcement was made public in Bordeaux, host to the competition’s 2008 edition. It is the first time that this competition, an itinerant event since 2006, will be held in Spain, “Which is a great achievement, as Valencia will become the wine world’s capital throughout the duration of the competition”, the organisers stated.
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles’ main objective is to facilitate premium wine marketing, increase production and encourage responsible consumption as an aspect of civil-mindedness, thereby helping to develop wine culture.
It also hopes to showcase and increase public awareness of every wine variety in the world, becoming a platform for the latest trends in vintages, vine or country varieties.
This event has taken place every year since 1994 and became itinerant in 2006, hosted in the cities of Lisbon (2006), Maastricht (2007) and Bordeaux (2008). More than 48 wine-producing countries and 240 expert tasters take part in this event.
In 2009, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will coincide in Valencia with Vinoélite, the Fine Wines Fair. Vinoélite is an international monographic competition, held every two years, in the Feria Valencia Exhibition Centre. In its 1st edition, in April 2007, more than 5,000 trade professional took part, including the most important Spanish and international importers and prescriptors.
