The wine under DO La Mancha from Finca Antigua, a bodega belonging to the Riojan family, Martínez Bujanda, is the official 2008 BusinessElite class wine for the US airline Delta Airlines on its international flights.
The wine chosen is ‘Cabernet Sauvignon 2005’, selected from among 200 wines from around the world during a blind tasting owing to its “excellent quality and unbeatable value”.
Finca Antigua is located in Los Hinojosos, a municipality in Cuenca, at an altitude of 900 meters and in a privileged area of over 1,000 hectares, of which 420 are devoted to the vineyard. Its wines are not unknown outside of Spain as it has already accumulated around thirty international awards, a fact that led Delta Airlines to invite it to take part in the blind tasting, which it won.
The airline, with head-office in Atlanta, in the state of Georgia, is the third largest in the US.
This Cuenca bodega was purchased by the Martínez Bujanda family, owner of three other bodegas under QDO Rioja (Cosecheros y Criadores, Valdemar and Valpiedra), in 2001 and opened in 2003. Currently it produces 1.2m bottles of eight different varieties of reds and one white.
