One of the secrets behind the extraordinary wines made by this winery under DO Campo de Borja appellation is to be found in the snow-capped peaks of the Moncayo, a towering mountain that divides the provinces of Soria and Saragossa. The mountain’s rolling foothills provide optimal conditions for vine growing. Its slopes and undulations cradle the vineyards, located at altitudes ranging between 400 and 700 m above sea level, shielding them from the cold, the heat and the Cierzo wind, which infuses the grapes with their trademark highland aromas.
In this terrain, located in the north-eastern reaches of the province of Saragossa, the winery currently harvests 10.5 M kg of grapes, predominantly of their star variety Garnacha. Indeed, of Grupo Borsao’s 2,430 hectares, their leading variety covers 1,720, accounting for 70 percent of their overall production and highly appreciated for the complexity it provides the wines in terms of structure and colour.
None the less, this harsh, dry and rocky terrain also successfully accommodates Syrah (210 hectares), Cabernet Sauvignon (170 hectares), Tempranillo (160 hectares), Merlot (110 hectares), Mazuela (20 hectares) and Macabeo (40 hectares).
Technical capacity, up-to-date facilities, the vineyard’s outstanding potential and a heightened sensitivity for a job well done are Grupo Borsao’s guiding principles. By applying a reviewed work ethic, Borsao has established its brand as a benchmark for quality wines under DO Campo de Borja in the demanding US market.
