Adega Condes de Albarei, which is made up of more than 400 families from the Salnés Valley, represents one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by DO Rías Baixas to date, reaching its peak with the recent purchase of Pazo Baión, a singular 30-hectare estate which boasts the largest vineyard in the whole sub-region. This unparalleled landscape is destined to become a wine tourism, oenological and social leader in the near future.

Adega Condes de Albarei is located in Cambados, in the heart of the Salnés Valley the sub-region, under DO Rías Baixas, most associated with the Albariño grape, the ‘queen’ of its crop. This bodega, or ‘adega’ in Galician, was founded in 1988, coinciding with the creation of the appellation, through the initiative of a group of wine enthusiasts from the Salnés Valley, who pooled their resources and vineyards in order to make and sell high-quality Albariños.

Just three years later, the international wine critique praised the bodega’s work awarding its ‘Albariño Condes de Albarei’ a Gold Medal in the Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux, making it the first Spanish white wine ever to win such an award. This event helped in a fundamental way to heighten awareness about Albariño wines at an international level and, consequently, to the expansion not only of Condes de Albarei, but also DO Rías Baixas.

Currently, the bodega owns more than 200 hectares, a dimension which overcomes the region’s traditional impediment, ‘the smallholding syndrome’, and ensures just the right amount of market influence both at home and abroad, as well as the unification of production and quality criteria.

Adega Condes de Albarei’s philosophy is based on guaranteeing the utmost quality in each and every one of its processes; respecting the environment to the full, from planting the vine to selling the wine. In order to maintain and improve its objectives, the bodega boasts a young, but highly qualified and experienced team, as well as modern facilities which are suited to its objectives.
